around 6:00 a.m. yesterday when an intruder broke into a business on baltimore annapolis boulevard. police say a man was found shot to death in glen bernie. they said the man broke into the store not knowing somebody was inside. that was the store's owner, jim butler. police say butler, they got into an altercation inside the business and philip was eventually shot. philip eventually collapsed in the parking lot. the owner had been having difficulties with people breaking into the store, and this time he happened to be there when it happened. philip had a vast criminal record including theft and various drug offenses. police say so far no charges have been filed in this case. kim dacey, wbal-tv 11 news. >> police are investigating two

separate christmas day shootings. one happened on druid park lake drive in west baltimore. an adult male was found suffering a gunshot wound to his leg. there was a shooting in west baltimore. investigators found a male with a gunshot wound to his upper body. no word this morning on his condition or a suspect. a double shooting in east baltimore. one of the victims has been identified and was shot multiple times. he later died at the hospital. a second victim had gunshot wounds to her abdomen. >> authorities have recovered the human remains worried that the trap was left for

firefighters in new york. officials believed the remains are cheryl spengler and that her brother is responsible for setting the fires and ambushing the first responders. he wanted to burn down the neighborhood and killing people. the rifle used is the same weapon as the one used in the elementary shooting. >> officers from surrounding jurisdictions stepped up to fill and so every newtown police officer could spend christmas with their families. dozens of people are trying to help comfort the community.

there was free hot chocolate and donuts and panda bears handed out to kids on christmas eve. >> he was celebrating his first christmas mass in baltimore yesterday appeared the archbishop said he was mindful of its previous congregation. >> my heart is with all the folks in newtown and i'm asking the lord to give them healing and to let them know our solidarity with them in prayer. they have been inundated with so many things. with the cards, letters, phone calls. what they need are our prayers.

>> welcome back to 11 news today. 6:14. 33 degrees downtown and the temperature is falling. a wintry mix is moving back into the area. this will cause problems on the roads. it is showing up as heavy rain in richmond. it is more of a wintry mix north of la plata. this will be building into baltimore. the snow is falling from the clouds but evaporated before reaching the ground. any moment now the snowflakes will start to fall. it is cold enough to be on the rain-snow line.

37 downtown. 30 in westminster. a dividing line right now. where it is below freezing, that is the best chance to get accumulation. we're watching as the wintry mix builds and then. the mountains could see some heavier accumulations. the best chance for accumulations happening in baltimore this morning. this is all a rain event for the lower eastern shore. an inch or less could fall near baltimore. watch out for slippery spots on

the road. this will be happening out towards hagerstown. anywhere from 1-2 inches. it could change back into an icy mix overnight. minor accumulation across baltimore. rain could change back into an icy mix. possible tomorrow morning. sunday at looks dry. a very active pattern. >> it could make things tricky out there. we are looking at light volume around the area.

55 on the north side through the parkville region. moving well into the beltway. 95 near the 395, not tracking any delays at the moment. 95 checks out ok as well. 65 traveling down towards mount carmel. 295 picking up in volume traveling southbound. 55 on 295. 65 miles per hour through the glen burnie area. that is the latest on traffic pulse 11. over toyou. >> it was hardly a silent night on christmas for residence in mobile, alabama. several buildings were damaged and the windows were blown out

on the infirmary medical center. no injuries or fatalities have been reported. it was wet in dallas. 1-3 inches were reported across the area. there were several fender benders. charles durning was known as the cane of character actors. was in "tootsie" and "the sting." he was a decorated world war ii hero that barely survived d-day. his family is planning a burial at arlington national cemetery.

>> thank you. police are investigating a shooting that left a man dead in glen bernie. >> kim dacey is live in the studio with details. >> police say this happened when an intruder broke into a business. that intruder was confronted by the store owner and was shot christmas morning. police are investigating the death of byron philip of chester. he was found shot to death. police say on tuesday morning he broke into the store not knowing that somebody was inside. that someone was identified as the store's owner, jim butler. police say the owner and philip got into an altercation inside the business and that philip

was eventually shot. philip then collapsed in the parking lot. butler's lawyer said he has been having difficulty with people breaking into the store, which police have responded to. this time somebody broke in and he was there. philip had a criminal record including theft and various drug offenses and court appearances for robbery and credit-card fraud. police say so far no charges have been filed in this case. kim dacey, wbal-tv 11 news. >> in man accused of killing his son will be back in court this morning. the hearing is scheduled today in connection with the death of the sun. he told police he accidently dropped his son as he tried to put in and a playpen.

baltimore changes into rain later this afternoon. it should be at least an inch or less for parts of the metro area. that is really temperature dependent. i would expect an inch or less for baltimore. higher amounts north and west. years down -- hagerstown, 2-4 inches. 32 as you get into the northwest suburbs. icy mix possible tomorrow morning. 41 for the high tomorrow. snow possible again on saturday. this is an active pattern. maybe a wintry mix returning on
